How do I pull an impeller out?
Use an impeller puller like ImpelPro. Insert the tool’s arms directly in the middle of the impeller, but do not put an arm on the side near the cam. Then, tighten the thumbscrew to grip, then screw in the rod by hand. Once the rod is up against the shaft, use a 9/16” wrench on the nut. Continue to tighten the rod until the impeller comes out. No prying or damage is needed.
My impeller is stuck – what should I do?
Use a puller like ImpelPro with patience. Never force with pliers. It will pull stuck impellers even in the tightest engine compartments.
Why won’t my impeller puller grip the impeller?
Ensure you’re using the right size puller and that the arms are seated fully and gripping the hub. Contact us if unsure.
Can I use pliers to remove an impeller?
We don’t recommend it. Pliers can shred the vanes or damage the pump housing. Use a puller designed for the job.
Can I remove a melted or damaged impeller with a puller?
Yes. ImpelPro is designed to remove even stuck or partially melted impellers without damaging the pump.
Impeller Knowledge & Maintenance
How often should I replace my boat’s impeller?
Every 100 hours of use or once a year—whichever comes first. Check your engine manual.
What happens if I don’t replace my impeller?
You risk overheating, engine failure, and costly repairs. It’s a cheap part that protects your whole engine.
How long can I run a boat with a bad impeller?
Ideally, not at all. Even a short run can cause the engine to overheat. Replace it immediately.
Should I replace my impeller every season?
Yes, especially if your boat sits idle over winter. Dry-starts can crack the vanes.
What does a bad impeller sound or look like?
Worn, cracked, or missing vanes. You might also hear whirring, squealing, or notice reduced water flow.

If it’s been more than 3 business days without movement or you’re concerned, feel free to contact us and we’ll help track it down. We’re here to make sure your maintenance is smooth sailing.
How do I change my delivery address?
Changed course? No problem—happens to the best of us. If your order hasn’t shipped yet, drop us a line as soon as possible and we’ll update the delivery address before it sets sail. Once it’s shipped, the package is in the carrier’s hands (and on its own voyage). But don’t worry—we’ll do everything we can to help reroute it or anchor it at the right spot. Just contact us and we’ll steer things in the right direction.
